The pages are still bound together, with the exception of the first endpaper, but the boards have come almost completely loose from them. However, this is still an gorgeous antique with beautiful illustrations from the famous Armstrong sisters.
I read it myself, and it was actually a fun read. It was a bit like a fairy tale or a medieval romance, with everyone getting their just desserts. The language is very simple, even for a modern reader, because it was originally intended for kids. Despite that factor, there are some interesting tropes and themes.

Spine is good, but there's a lot of discoloration from age. No smells or markings otherwise.

The Leatherstocking Saga

As you can see, the first page has come loose from this pocket size antique book. It comes from a smoke free home. This type of book can be considered a "northern" as opposed to a "western." It's about an English family who lose their wealth and decide to strike out for Canada and start over as pioneers. I found them cheerful through loss and hardship, and ultimately their hard work is rewarded.

Shadows on the Rock

The peeling of the fabric at the top of the spine is the worst flaw. Binding is otherwise good, and it's from a smoke free home. Nearly a century and a quarter old.

Binding is nice and tight, no smells of anything but paper. 125 years old! 
I read this one myself. Really interesting turn of the century idioms and references to learn. The lady authoress herself was a favorite of Queen Victoria in her day. She had a fascinating life. This story had a lot going on, and it was difficult to pick a genre. I chose romance in the more hidtorical sense of the word.

A Transplanted Rose

I posted a pic showing the binding. Only a few threads hold the covers onto the book. It's nearly a century old though, so I'm pleased it came to me from a smoke free home and with no writing or bends or stains inside. I read it myself during the Christmas season and it's quite charming in that turn of the century love story way. If it were produced into a film today, it would be very easily made into one of those cheesy but cozy holiday films that are made for TV.
