The author journals his time in China from December 1941 to April 1944. Filled with information about people, ideas, war, peace, and civilization. Although it is a journal it is not one of self absorption, but rather a poetic love affair with China. Published in 1945 by Dodd, Mead a d Company of New York. 573 numbered pages. Red cloth boards with publisher, title and author on black with gold lettering. Deckled page edges. Spine is faded. A newspaper book review (included) was attached to rear inside cover and caused browning, rust marks and minimal damage on inside cover and last few pages. Previous owner has written gift information and date on inside front cover in blue ink. Small bookshop plate on rear inside cover. See photos for condition. Otherwise it is a clean, tight and readable copy. No dust jacket.
