Her inspiration on writing espionage thrillers was her honeymoon in Europe. While traveling, she and her husband witnessed first hand the oppression of the German totalitarian regime, and Helen swore to write against the oppressive forces of the Nazi government. She kept notes during their travels in Europe. These notes and her husband's work in British Intelligence had a heavy influence on her stories.
