The writing in this is so pretty that it masks the fact that nothing really happens in this book. I should rank this lower, but the fact that any author can make me want to stick through 500 pages of what basically is a pro-circus manifesto deserves some credit.

This book is one I would consider a comfort read. While it doesn't have a very heavy plot, the atmosphere more than makes up for that. The descriptions of the circus and the characters surrounding it are so whimsical, and it makes for a story I'm happy to just exist in. I can see why it might not be...

The night circus is painted in a way that it feels like you are there. You can taste the popcorn, smell the firework smoke, and see the wear and tear of the tents as two magicicians battle to the death in it? Astounding. I loved it.
