Walker Percy (1916-1990) was an American author and doctor of medicine, known for his philosophical novels exploring the modern human condition in a Southern context. He wrote six novels, including The Moviegoer (1961) and The Last Gentleman (1966), which won the National Book Award. He also wrote two non-fiction works, Lost in the Cosmos (1983) and The Message in the Bottle (1975).
