Niccolo Machiavelli (1469–1527) was an Italian philosopher, political theorist, and diplomat. He is best known for his treatise The Prince, which is a handbook for rulers on how to acquire and maintain political power. He was a major influence on modern political thinking, and his works continue to be studied and discussed centuries after his death.
