Leonard Shlain

Leonard Shlain was an American surgeon, author, and inventor. Born on August 28, 1937, he was best known for his works on the relationship between art, science, and the human consciousness. Shlain wrote several critically acclaimed books, including "Art & Physics: Parallel Visions in Space, Time, & Light," which explores the intersection of artistic creativity and scientific knowledge, and "The Alphabet Versus the Goddess: The Conflict Between Word and Image," which hypothesizes that the invention of writing and the alphabet has influenced the balance of power between the genders. His third book, "Sex, Time, and Power: How Women's Sexuality Shaped Human Evolution," looks at how feminine sexuality has impacted the unfolding of human history. Shlain applied his broad knowledge of scientific principles and historical perspectives to form intriguing theories on how advances in literacy and technology have profoundly affected culture and human consciousness. He was not only a thought-provoking author but also a respected laparoscopic surgeon. Leonard Shlain passed away on May 11, 2009.
