Jun'Ichiro Tanizaki (1886-1965) was a Japanese novelist, playwright, and essayist. He is considered one of Japan's most important authors, and his works often explore the clash between traditional Japanese culture and Western influences. His most famous works include The Makioka Sisters, Naomi, and In Praise of Shadows.
