Higuchi Tachibana was a Japanese author and playwright who is best known for her novel, The Makioka Sisters. She was born in Osaka in 1872 and wrote many works of fiction, including short stories, novels, and plays. She was a major contributor to the literary movement known as shōjo bungaku, or "girl's literature," which focused on the lives of young women in the early 20th century. Her works often explored the themes of tradition, family, and female identity.
