Herbert W. Wind

Herbert Warren Wind was an American sports writer, best known for his coverage of golf. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts on August 11, 1916, Wind wrote for The New Yorker, where he covered golf from 1947 until his retirement in 1990. He also contributed to Sports Illustrated and penned several books on the sport. Notably, Wind is credited with coining the phrase "Amen Corner" to describe the critical 11th, 12th, and 13th holes at Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Tournament. His insightful and literary approach to golf reporting elevated the standard for golf journalism. Wind passed away in 2005, leaving behind a legacy as one of the game's most respected and influential figures in golf literature.
