David J. Skal is an American cultural historian, biographer, and critic. He is best known for his books on classic horror films, such as The Monster Show and Hollywood Gothic, and his biographies of influential figures in horror and science fiction, such as Bela Lugosi and Edgar Allan Poe. He has also written extensively on the history of American popular culture, including books on the history of Halloween and the history of the horror genre.
